Syrian Army Say they are now strong with Russian Support..
The Syrian army claimed Thursday its major offensive launched with the support of Lebanese Hezbollah and aviation of Russia, whose involvement in the conflict concerned more NATO. Syrian soldiers took most of a strategic Hill Jib Ahmar in Western Syria, with the help of Hezbollah, a military source told AFP. The Syrian Observatory of the rights of man (OSDH) confirmed this progress made by the army and by “thousands of militiamen of the Forces of defense national (FDN) trained by the Russians and Hezbollah” on the Hill, in the coastal province of Lattakia (West).
On the ninth day of their air strikes in Syria, the Russians have continued to intensify their raids by bombing 27 targets in the provinces of Raqa’i (North), Homs and Hama (centre), according to the army. US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter said to expect that the Russia “starts to suffer losses” human “in the coming days”. Mr. Carter was in Brussels for a meeting of the defense Ministers of the Member countries of NATO, whose Secretary general Jens Stoltenberg has described as “alarming escalation” Russian military engagement. The Alliance, which is not directly involved in the Syrian conflict, again urged Moscow to stop supporting the regime of president Bashar Al-Assad, and would be willing to defend each of its members, “including the Turkey”, adjoining the Syria. Ankara has recently accused Russia of violating its airspace.
Diminished combat capability
Moscow announced Wednesday that its raids were “synchronized with land operations” of the Syrian army, which attempted to get the conquered territories in recent months by rebel groups and the Islamic State (AR) Organization. “The army began a major offensive to crush terrorist groups and release the regions and localities that have suffered from terrorism,” the Syrian general Ali Abdallah Ayoub announced Thursday.
Jib Ahmar Hill, located on a mountain range at the intersection of the provinces of Hama and Lattakia, is a strategic position, because it dominates the Sahl al-Ghab plain, of which a part has recently conquered by an alliance of Islamist rebels and the al-Dhanub, Syrian branch of Al-Qaida Front. The army aims to regain the ground lost in this plain in order to avoid that the insurgents cut the links between the provinces of Hama and Lattakia.
The army released a video entitled beginning of the military operation in Idleb and Hama in which one sees the use different types of arms. Part of these facilities has been provided by Russia, whose bombing began to “reduce the ability of combat (…) terrorist groups”, stressed the general Ayoub.
Since the beginning, September 30 of its intervention, the Russia conducted bombardment from fighter jets and Cruisers in the Caspian Sea but has not committed troops on the ground. Mr. Carter deplored the fact that the Russians have “fired cruise missiles of a ship from the Caspian Sea without warning” and that some of these missiles are “approached a few kilometers away from one of (their) drones”.
The Russia denied Thursday that four cruise missiles that it gained Wednesday to Syria since the Caspian Sea have fallen in Iran, as stated by a U.S. official, confirming information from CNN. “Four Russian missiles fell yesterday in Iran”, said a US official told AFP. “We think that 4 of the 26 missiles fired Wednesday by the Russia towards the Syria likely fell in Iran,” said another Executive told AFP. “All our cruisers-fired missiles have reached their target,” replied the spokesman of the Russian Ministry of defense, General Igor Konachenkov in a press release.
The last Russian aviation raids including destroyed stocks of weapons and underground caches, said the Russian Ministry of defense. They also bombed “eleven sectors where there were fighters of the ISIS training camps in the provinces of Hama and Raqa’i”. In addition, according to source of security on the ground, fighting between army and the jihadists of the ISIS around the gas field of Chaer, province of Homs. Further to the North, in the province of Aleppo, at least 12 people were killed in a bombing with the car bomb in Hreitan, an area controlled by rebel groups, including the al-Dhanub Front, indicated the OSDH, which specifies that the ISIS is charged with this attack.
