Congratulations to Sergeant Chris Clutter of the Apopka Police Department.
Last Friday, Mr. Clutter graduated from the 94th Commander Development Course, an intensive five-month training program held by the Southern Police Institute. But not only did he graduate, he was also valedictorian.
Clutter is the supervisor of APD's night unit. He has been a member of APD for his six years and a law enforcement officer since 2009.
Apopka Police Chief Michael McKinley was impressed with Clutter's accomplishments.
“It is truly inspiring to see our employees participate in courses designed to improve their leadership and management skills, thereby preparing them for the challenges they may face in the future.” said McKinley. Sergeant Clutters' recent graduation serves as a testament to the dedication our personnel have shown to their careers and our community. We are very proud of Sergeant Clutters' outstanding accomplishment as one of our valedictorians. His representation of the Apopka Police Department reflects not only his personal efforts, but his collective efforts throughout the course. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to him for his hard work and commendable efforts. ”
According to its website, SPI is a division of the University of Louisville College of Arts and Sciences' Office of Criminal Justice. It is an advanced education and training institution whose mission is to enhance the professional development of law enforcement practitioners. We accomplish this mission by providing education and career development programs designed to challenge and prepare law enforcement practitioners for today's and tomorrow's demands. Southern Police Institute is consistently ranked among the nation's top law enforcement education and training schools.
Since Southern Police Institute's founding in 1951, its instructional programs have been based on the belief that law enforcement is a demanding activity requiring the highest level of professional preparation. The Southern Police Institute was established by its founders to provide a place where that preparation could take place. Our current faculty and staff are dedicated to this mission and continue to uphold the standards of excellence established by our founders. They are uniquely qualified as researchers, consultants, teachers, and former law enforcement practitioners to guide and guide the educational needs of today's law enforcement professionals.
The 400-500 hour program lasted two weeks a month for five months, Clutter said. He says his time at SPI was beneficial in many ways beyond the training.
“Beyond the material provided, my biggest takeaway from this course was the opportunity to learn, network, and form lasting friendships with law enforcement leaders from other agencies. As quoted by Chief Chuck Broadway in his speech, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” This quote captures my experience well in the Commander Development Course. It represents. ”
