BENGALURU: The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will invite applications for 30 days from January 25 for 10,000 sites for the newly established Dr Shivaram Karanth Layout.
However, purchasing land will not come cheap as BDA, which is developing the layout in the northern part of the city, has fixed a price of Rs 4,900 per square foot.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday expressed his gratitude to the Justice AV Chandrashekhar-led committee that oversaw the implementation of the project. “I am grateful to all three members,” he said, adding that the layout of Shivaram Karanth is not only better than Sadashivanagar but also on par with Jayanagar and Malleswaram.
“The layout is planned on 3,069 acres of land. Around 18,000 farmers have lost their land. Farmers will be allocated land on priority basis. They will be compensated on the developed sites. There are around 4,750 corner sites, which will be auctioned at a later stage. The remaining 10,000 sites will be allotted to the public,'' said Shivakumar, who is also Bangalore Development Minister.
He said the entire allocation process will be done online. “Applications will be accepted online. Kiosks will also be set up at BDA offices for those who do not have access to the internet. After the call for applications, the public will have to pay a down payment of 12.5%. SC/ST Community 5%. We will ensure transparency in the entire process,” Shivakumar said.
Asked about the high price range of the site, Shivakumar said BDA would not make any profit from the project. “There is a court order to compensate the farmers by providing them with developed land. So, the farmers will be given more land,” he said.
The Shivaram Karanth layout will also see the construction of a Kanteerava-sized cricket stadium, besides facilities such as parks and playgrounds. “We have identified around 25 to 30 acres of land for the stadium and it will be adjacent to a 40-metre wide road,” Shivakumar said.
BDA will continue to create layouts. “I asked the engineer to identify 10,000 acres of land to form the new layout,” he said.
