Since the early 1970s, Freeman's Barbershop has been a cornerstone of the community, shaping the landscape of downtown Milledgeville and beyond.
Founded by the late Robert Freeman Sr., the facility has become more than just a barbershop, it is a testament to resilience, family and tradition. Mr. Freeman learned to cut at an early age by watching his uncle (Jordan Freeman) who lived in the Bartow/Sandersville area.he returned to While in high school, Milledgeville worked at several local stores as a teenager.
His first store was located at 203 N. Wilkinson Street (early 1970s) until the City of Milledgeville purchased all the land surrounding the area that is now the Milledgeville Police Department. The store then moved to 138 N. Wayne Street until Mr. Freeman purchased its current location (142 N. Wayne St.).
Freeman's legacy continues through his family. Today, his wife, son, daughter, son-in-law, and grandson carry on his vision and values, ensuring Freeman's Barbershop remains a beacon of excellence and community connection. At Milledgeville, Mr. Freeman's son-in-law, Donald Reese, is deft with clippers and scissors, proudly upholding tradition and providing first-class service to loyal patrons and first-timers alike. are doing. Meanwhile, Mr. Freeman's son Rob. Junior has expanded to include four of his other stores in the Maryland/DC area, expanding the reach of this beloved establishment.
Freeman's Barbershop is more than just a place for fresh cuts. A living testament to the enduring spirit of entrepreneurship, family, and Black excellence. Freeman's Barbershop has won many awards through Barbershop and magazines (Black Enterprise, Washington Post, etc.) aims to give back to the community. Freeman's Barbershop has now expanded into its fourth generation. Robert Jr.'s two sons, Xavier and Ryan, are also master barbers.
This Black History Month, let us honor and celebrate the legacy of Freeman's Barber Shop and the deep impact it continues to have on our community.
