Fitbit, a Google company, announced today that the company will be introducing a new and redesigned app over the next few months. Fitbit announced that it will begin beta testing a new app for a limited number of people starting today.
The company said the new app will have a three-tab structure. A Today tab that displays an overview of the user's activity, a Coach tab that displays health and fitness content, and a You tab that gives the user access to adjustments. Set goals and track your progress.
The current version of the Fitbit app already has a Today tab. However, the new app has been redesigned to give you at-a-glance stats such as today's steps, stress management, sleep score, zone time, activity, and more. Fitbit Premium users can see stats like readiness scores.
Fitbit is introducing a fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness content hub with a new “Coaches” tab by displaying curated content. Users will be able to filter workouts by equipment type. Premium users will have access to workout types such as dance cardio and HIIT. In the current version of the Fitbit app, some of this content is[Discover]Hosted on Tab.
Finally, the “You” tab allows users to adjust measurement goals such as steps, activity, and sleep. The “You” tab also incorporates features such as achievements and community.
The company is also introducing an easy way to track your health without owning a Fitbit device. Users can use their phones to measure activities like walking, running, and hiking with more accurate step counts and a live view of their route on a map.
Fitbit says the app incorporates Google Material Design standards, which means users may see more of Google within the service. Fitbit announced in April that it would begin encouraging users to migrate to Google accounts. Despite this move, Google said it will not use Fitbit data for Google ads at this time.
