I decided to go with an industrial theme for the three rail layout. I wanted lots of chimneys, people in helmets and safety vests, and tall cranes. My full-time job takes me in and out of facilities in a variety of industries, so I already had a good idea and a solid plan for what the layout should be. Specifically, I wanted a realistic setting with specific types of structures and scenery to provide an appropriate environment for the modern diesel I enjoyed driving.

Lionel is the only one on my list of locomotives. Most engines can be controlled with legacy command control. Two are LionChief Plus models. I took a slightly broader approach when it came to rolling stock. The Lionel model is run on freight and passenger cars cataloged by MTH. My modern trains are sometimes coupled with post-war vehicles from my father's collection.

In a typical driving session, I drive two trains at the same time and am very comfortable using the CAB-2 controller. The Lionel 180 Watt Brick powers railroad tracks, switches, and uncoupler lines.
