I feel something about the miniature world. It's very relaxing to watch and think about. Think you don't have enough space in your home to lay out a model train? You may not be thinking small enough. [Peter Waldraff] He knows a thing or two about hiding train layouts inside furniture (that's one solution), but this time he made visible tracks to place on a bookshelf. Overall size is only 5.5″ x 12″.
This N scale layout took three years to build. The main reasons are: [Peter] I've been waiting for the right small powered chassis to come along. Regarding the layout, [Peter] First, I removed the parts with a sharp knife to create a custom flexible track. He glued the truck to the pink foam and used nails to hold it in place until the glue dried. He also built a wooden frame around the base to stabilize it and hold some of the electronic components, including switches made from old ballpoint pens.
Then it's time to start decorating. First, we built several buildings made of pink foam, both lit up with LEDs. Finally, [Peter] We added lots of details to make the layout really pop, such as street lights, animals, and trash cans. As for the engine, [Peter] I got a Tomytec TM-TR02 on eBay and made a dolly out of two broken cars. [Peter]You'll have to see the build for yourself. Luckily, a build and demo video is available after the break.
As I said earlier, [Peter]'s usual area is hiding train layouts on end tables, coffee tables, etc., so it's great to see what he can do under different constraints.
