Nagpur: The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) board in its meeting held on Monday decided to hand over 65 regularized layouts to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). This will ensure that people living in these layouts continue to receive basic amenities from the city authorities uninterrupted. NIT has also decided to hand over the open spaces of these layouts to the civic body. However, this authority appears to be keeping public utility (PU) land within these layouts in its own hands, which is likely to cause friction between the two planning authorities in the future. NIT regularly regulates unauthorized layouts under the Ghanthewari Act. It is imperative that the NIT develops the infrastructure in a regularized layout and hands it over to the NMC. So far, out of 3,822 fraudulent layouts, NIT has regularized 2,084 of her cases. However, only 126 such layouts have been handed over to the NMC. Sources said that even though the NMC had collected regularization fees from plot owners, he had always accused the NIT of not developing proper infrastructure in the regularized layout. For this reason, the NMC refuses to take over the layout from the NIT if the infrastructure is not in place or developed in a proper manner. Caught between two planning authorities, residents living in standardized layouts are suffering through no fault of their own. The NIT Board also decided to conduct a survey on the works carried out for the Manewada Digital Library. The board also passed a resolution regarding the development of a commercial and sports complex. , a hall and museum located on a vast plot of land adjacent to Sakkardhara Lake. The board also approved the construction of a swimming pool at the Ambedkar Sports Complex in Ahujanagar at a cost of Rs 3.76 billion.
