The University of Indianapolis today announced a Guaranteed Admissions Agreement with Ivy Tech Community College to further enhance the accessibility of a bachelor's degree and lower barriers to private school education, which continues to deliver great outcomes for graduates. announced. The agreement should result in a confidence boost for Ivy Tech students, who often choose her UIndy for its smaller class sizes and personalized support that mirror what they are accustomed to at Ivy Tech.
The Guaranteed Admissions Agreement creates the Ivy Tech Special Transfer Program, which aligns with the key recommendations of a study released this month from the Community College Research Center, to increase enrollment in four-year programs among community college students nationwide. It was found that only 33% and 48% of students transfer to public universities. A higher percentage of community transfer students earn a bachelor's degree within six years of enrolling at their college. Rates are even lower for subgroups such as low-income, black, and Hispanic students.
“The data is out there and it's concerning,” said Chris Plouffe, executive vice president and provost at the University of Indianapolis. “There is a huge gap in lifetime earnings and generational wealth potential between those with a bachelor's degree and those without. I am proud that I am achieving the same or better results than the students who attended the school for four years.”
The Ivy Tech Distinguished Transfer Program guarantees admission to the University of Indianapolis and a merit scholarship of at least $16,000 if you meet three conditions:
- Graduate with an associate's degree through an approved 2+2 transfer pathway or “Transfer as a Junior” pathway
- Have a GPA of at least 3.0
- Register as a full-time student at UIndy
The Guaranteed Admission Agreement guarantees Ivy Tech students that earned credits and certain associate degrees count directly toward the coursework required to earn a bachelor's degree at the University of Indianapolis. 2+2 programs are offered for more than a dozen programs, including business, criminal justice, liberal arts, and psychology.
“The University of Indianapolis has always been a transfer-friendly university,” said Steve Schuetz, interim vice president of enrollment management at UIndy. “This Guaranteed Admissions Agreement with Ivy Tech only strengthens that idea. We look forward to welcoming more top community college students to our caring and supportive Greyhound community. We are proud to have achieved this.”
Students who do not meet the Ivy Tech Distinguished Transfer Program's GPA requirements are still eligible for admission and certain merit scholarships through the standard transfer process, including the 2+2 transfer pathway.
“Ivy Tech students who like class size and the amount of support they receive from professors and staff will love their experience at the University of Indianapolis,” said UIndy Assistant Director Ben Huston. states. of admission. “We are really excited about this agreement because it strengthens the bond we already have with Ivy Tech and provides additional support for our students as they strive to reach their highest potential.”
