Max Verstappen has declared he is not a fan of the Las Vegas Strip circuit ahead of this weekend's F1 debut.
The race was originally announced more than 18 months ago, with F1 investing heavily in preparation for the event as it continues to expand its footprint in the United States.
The Las Vegas Grand Prix will be the third U.S.-based race this year, following Miami, Florida and Austin, Texas.
The track consists of the famous Las Vegas Strip, but Verstappen is not thrilled with the layout, claiming he prefers tracks made up of high-speed corners.
“I don't think it's that exciting,” he told the media, including the media. RacingNews365.com.
“That's the only thing, already for me, street circuits are not very exciting, especially with these new cars.
“It's just too heavy, especially if you don't have a lot of grip.
“Sure, the scenery looks great when you drive down the Strip, but the layout itself isn't all that exciting.
“F1 cars are more fun when they have a lot of high-speed corners, but I don't think there are that many high-speed corners around here.”
Verstappen is hesitant about Red Bull's pace
The weekend began with an opening ceremony where the drivers were unveiled to the fans in attendance.
Verstappen criticized the show, saying he felt like a “clown”.
Red Bull enters the race weekend with only one loss so far this year, which was won by Ferrari in Singapore.
As Verstappen seeks his 18th win of the season, the Dutchman said it was impossible to know whether conditions in Las Vegas would be suitable for Red Bull.
“Maybe not [suit us] But to be honest, it could be very good,” Verstappen said.
“I don't know. At this point, no one knows where you are.”
“I think it’s more important to just go out there, feel the conditions, build up your grip and then try to set up and see what happens.”
