A 20-year-old Virginia Tech student is missing, the university announced Monday.
Johnny Roop was last seen Friday at his apartment complex on Canyon Ridge Road in the Merrimack section of Montgomery County, Virginia, according to the university and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. He was heading to his parents' home in Abington to take an online exam by 5pm local time, but never arrived.
His cell phone also received a call at New River Valley Mall at 4:26 p.m. He was driving a black 2018 Toyota Camry with Virginia license plate number TXW6643. Loop has a Virginia Tech flag sticker on the back of his car.
“At this time, we are asking the entire VT community to assist us in the search for Johnny,” Virginia Tech spokesperson Mark Owczurski told CBS affiliate WDBJ. “Comments regarding police issues/incidents should be directed to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department. They are the lead agency, but we are assisting in any way we can.”

The sheriff's office described Toop as 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing about 240 pounds, NBC affiliate WSLS reported.
“John wasn't the kind of guy who would just disappear,” Isaac Childress, a childhood friend of Roop's, told WSLS.
“I have friends who I haven't heard from for a few days and that's normal. They're doing their own thing, but Johnny, he's a man who values his family and friends,” he added. Ta.
