Coach Grant McCasland still doesn't know when his 23rd-ranked Texas Tech basketball team will have its starting big man back on the court.
The Red Raiders (18-7, 7-5) head coach announced during game time Monday that Warren Washington will be used for Tuesday's game against TCU at 8 p.m. at United Supermarket Arena. He said he believed the decision would be made within game time. Washington injured his leg in last week's 79-50 win over Kansas State and missed Saturday's Red Raiders' 82-74 loss to Iowa State.
“Warren went to practice and moved around with us,” McCasland said Monday. “I think we're just taking it one day at a time to see how much he can really do, and I'll tell you, he's putting in the effort and we're taking him We're trying to get them ready for the TCU game.
“But I don't think we'll know what's going to happen until we go to the game and see him in action.”
On Monday afternoon, Washington was still wearing a walking boot on his right foot at the Womble practice facility. He has missed Tech's past two road games and missed his first game at Baylor University due to illness. Texas Tech is 0-2 this season without the 7-footer in the lineup.
Entering this week, Washington led the team in rebounds (7.7 per game), field goal percentage (62.3 percent) and blocks (37), while averaging 10.3 points in the 23 games he played this season.
In the first game against Tech University on Jan. 30 in Fort Worth, TCU (18-7, 7-5) won 85-78.
